A dog attack is sudden, unexpected and potentially life changing. It gets worse when the ambulance, ER, and other medical professionals start sending you bills. A dog attack will cause you to incur more than medical bills. The trauma continues if you can’t work for some time. With the way heath insurance works now, it is not unheard of to get stuck with high deductibles and co-pays after going to the emergency room. And then to make things worse, with the gig economy and the way employment works now, you don’t get paid for missing time from work because of injuries.
A Dog Attack Cause More Than Medical Bills and Bite Wounds
A dog attack can cause more than just medical bills and bite wounds. Dog attacks and leave you with lasting injuries like broken bones, torn ligaments, long lasting joint injuries, spine injuries. They cause emotional injuries like PTSD and depression. All of this can also affect your work and cause you to incur medical bills.
Going After Homeowners Insurance in Dog Bite Cases
So what can you do? Often times, the dog owner’s home owner’s insurance will pay for these injuries and the lost time from work. It isn’t always easy though. Like all insurance companies they fight and argue the injuries are not that bad or you could have gone back to work. If you have any experience with insurance companies then you know what they mean. They are happy to take your money for premiums but they hate giving the money when you need it most. I handle a lot of these cases and love forcing insurance companies to pay.

So the potential to get reimbursed will be greater when dealing with the insurance company. I’ll talk about going after the dog owner personally in another post.
